A 6 week creative exploration through conscious dance, rewilding our inner landscape through the lens of freeform movement.
Conscious dance is a meditative, freeform, unchoreographed, and non-performative movement practice where we step out of thinking and drop into our body. By putting the body into motion, we’re invited into feeling our emotions and moving through them. We go from feeling stuck or in problem solving mode to stepping into our creative selves. Through this practice we learn to integrate the parts of us we struggle to accept and to be with all of ourselves.
WHY you might be interested in this?
We are all born to feel, to create, to move.
In the dark nights of autumn, we gather one evening each week, in a closed group, to dance ourselves back to life.
Creativity is not reserved for certain people. It is our life-force, our soul-song, our mechanism for sense-making our mysterious existence. We are all artists.
To create regenerative futures and solve the meta-crises of our time, we need to think outside of the box, we need our creativity and authenticity more than ever.
Yet our nervous systems are often stuck in a stress response of fight, flight, or freeze, as we're constantly flooded with complex information and living at the unsustainable pace of modernity.
This challenges our ability to think creatively, compassionately, and holistically. It keeps us locked in a degenerative, fear and scarcity based mindset.
When we are in a stress response, meditation in stillness is counter-productive. We need to move our bodies to complete the stress cycle, so we can tap into our creativity again.
Through creative practices like conscious dance, we bring our inner wilderness back to life. Allowing the music to move us, we come out of logic & reason, and drop into the soft, sensing, animal of our bodies.
It's not always comfortable, for in our bodies lies the truth of how we feel, detached from the stories we tell ourselves... our bodies don't lie.
“In many shamanic societies, if you came to a medicine person complaining of being disheartened, dispirited, or depressed, they would ask one of four questions: "When did you stop dancing? When did you stop singing? When did you stop being enchanted by stories? When did you stop being comforted by the sweet territory of silence?” - Gabrielle Roth, founder of 5rhythms
WHAT this will look like and feel like?
In this series, we come together in community to rediscover our inner wilderness through our dance.
This practice is about inviting all of ourselves with open arms. Rather than trying to fix or problem solve our discomforts from a cognitive level, we invite it all into our dance, and come out of the thinking mind. There is an alchemy that happens in the dance when we surrender to whatever is here. No striving, just being with whatever is.
We will pay attention to the natural cycles occurring within us and outside of us while meeting every Monday evening online for 6 weeks.
You can find the schedule below, under “Attendee Instructions”.
WHO is this for?
This is for anyone who wishes to explore their deeper terrain through movement, no prior experience is necessary.
